National Police Union Refuses to Endorse Obama, First Such Refusal in its History

Like you, I was taken aback that a UNION was refusing to endorse an INCUMBENT Democrat President; heck, they were refusing to endorse a Democrat period. Unions, rarely refuse to vote for a Democrat, but the Fraternal Order of Police have refused to endorse either Presidential Candidate in 2012.

In 1988 – the FOP endorsed (for the first time nationally) Republican George HW Bush

In 1992 – The FOP endorsed Republican George HW Bush

In 1996 – the FOP endorsed Democrat Bill Clinton

In 2000 – the FOP endorsed Republican George W Bush

In 2004 – the FOP endorsed Republican George W Bush

In 2008 – the FOP endorsed Republican John McCain

In 2012 – the FOP has not come out and endorsed either candidate

For the first time in our history, and only after careful consideration of the candidates’ records and their responses to our questions, we have determined in this instance the Fraternal Order of Police will not make a Presidential endorsement,” Canterbury said.

  • Super Mitt!

So the FOP that has endorsed the Republican candidate for president 5 of the last 6 elections has refused to do so in 2012, the first time it hasn’t endorsed the GOP candidate in over a decade… and this makes you happy? I’m for Romney, and this makes me pretty disgusted with the FOP. Obama never expected their endorsement, and I expected them to continue to support law and order. The Franteral Order of Police must not think Romney is a law and order candidate. I do. Shame on them!

No where in my post does it say their refusal to support either candidate makes me happy – my post is to counter the BS from sites like the Democrat Underground who have said they refuse to support Romney, the first time in 98 years – which is a Factual LIE as they did not start nationally supporting a President until 1988.

They are not throwing their support behind either one because NEITHER have come out and made police work a main driving issue.

As an ex-police officer my self – I personally could care less if they throw their support behind anyone; this does not drive my vote.

its the comment made by the FOP stating the Republicans were shocked not getting the endorsement which burns my behind, that statement had no business being made.
As a retired police officer along with my husband its just another reason I have lost faith in the FOP our reps are represent only their ownselves not the people they are suppose to represent kinda like our current politicians in office.
