British Statesman Warns America of Government Healthcare Horrors

Member of European Parliament Daniel Hannan warned Americans of the dangers of government-run healthcare on the Friday edition of the “Glenn Beck Program.”

Hannan, a Conservative who represents Southeast England in the European Parliament, said of the British National Health Service (NHS), “The most striking thing about it is that you are very often sent to the back of the queue.”

Beck noted the lengthy waiting times for care under Britain’s socialist National Health Service (NHS). These figures were provided by the BBC on May 27, 2009:

*cataract surgery – 8 months
*hip replacement – 11 months
*knee replacement – 12 months
*slipped disc – 5 months
*hernia repair – 5 months

Although to be fair, Hannan said, the NHS provides “not so bad” care with children but “the worst thing to be is elderly under a system like ours.” Said Hannan:

I could tell you horror stories about elderly people left starving in wards, and the amazing thing is, why do we put up with it? The reason we put up with it for so long is because it has become such a huge system. It’s got such an enormous bureaucracy based around it. We have 1.4 million people employed by the National Health Service.

The NHS is the third largest employer on the planet after the Red Army in Communist China and the Indian national railways. “Most of those 1.4 million people are administrators,” Hannan said.

And the existence of that huge electoral bloc makes it impossible to get rid of the system, Hannan said.

If Americans bring in universal healthcare, they should disabuse themselves of the notion that they can somehow come back and change the system a few years from now, Hannan said.

Facing the camera, Beck said, “America, you cannot let this thing pass. You cannot let any of this structure in…now you understand why this is going to change the face of America and it’ll do it forever.”

Hannan also spoke in Washington, D.C. last week. The title of his speech at the Heritage Foundation was “Putting the Government in Charge: Why America Should Avoid Europe’s Mistakes.”

You know me well enough by now, which is that I am no fan of either establishment party, though sadly I did once in the past, play the game of the "Lesser of Two Evils", for which was tragic. Both seek absolute power, through their own self righteous perceptions of "morality", bastardizing the true concept of the founding of this country and the framing of the US Constitution. Clowns to the Left and the incessant need to control by bigger government while spending us into oblivion; Jokers to the Right and the incessant need to control by religion while spending us into oblivion. Oddly, both are the main two tenets for the founding of the country and framing of the US Constitution - Limited Government and Freedom From Religious Persecution & Religious Zealotry. Daniel Hannan, you’ve taken him seriously?
Why don’t you ask the millions upon millions of Brits who hold the NHS up as a National Treasure? Daniel Hannan’s own party vow to protect it, because if they even dared mentioning privatisation, they’d be unelectable.

Why should I not take him seriously?

You ask “Why don’t you ask the millions upon millions of Brits who hold the NHS up as a National Treasure?” and I ask you, why don’t you ask the tens-of-millions of American who are happy with their health insurance and who do NOT Want the government in control of their health care?

“Why don’t you ask the millions upon millions of Brits who hold the NHS up as a National Treasure? Daniel Hannan’s own party vow to protect it, because if they even dared mentioning privatisation, they’d be unelectable. ” And I counter your statement with what exactly will take place here-Democrats losing a lot of seats- if government run health care is implemented via the bill as it reads now against the overwhelming majority who do not want the government run health care they are pushing!

I am curious, the Brits health care you refer to, does it use tens-of-billions of tax payers dollars to give preferential treatment to minorities?

Does the Brits Health Care have an organization setup where they go into homes of families with young children or who are expecting young children and teach them how to raise their children properly-using tax payers money?

I am sure this question is no big deal to you, but does Brits Health Care use tax payers money to pay for abortions whether they re medically necessary or not?

Does Brits Health Care ensure that 12+ million illegal aliens will be covered?

The 10s of millions of Americans happy with private health insurance, are slightly ignorant to the 40 million who aren’t insured, and who cannot afford to enrich insurance companies.

Why are you so anti-universal healthcare, yet universal policing, and fire service, you have no problem with?

It is becoming plainly obvious that the American Right Wing, is horribly selfish. If someone is poor, cannot afford private insurance, and needs medical treatment, we don’t look at the size of his wallet first, we see a person, who needs help.

But then, I accept that America has lost all sense of compassion over the past eight years. Because if you give money to help someone who needs it most, who’s going to fund your illegal wars and the deaths of thousands of innocent Arabs?

Let me address the “universal health care” claim that you state Republicans are against. First, the bill proposed today is NOT a universal health care bill. It penalizes those who do not have “acceptabel” health care coverage, it forces tax payers to pay for abortions, it forces tax payers to fund health care for over 12 million illegal aliens, it forces over $500 billion in cuts to our elderly, it gives preferential treat to minorities with billions of tax payers money, and it does NOT address tort refrom.

Now, how is forcing millions of legal citizens and our elderly to wait in line or drive up our costs because of over 12 million illegal aliens proper health care or fair to the law abiding legal citizens of our country?

How is forcing tax payers to pay hundreds of millions of dollars for ELECTIVE abortions health care for the needy? That money be better used on our elderly and/or homeless!

Why are we penalized for purchasing the health insurance we believe is right for us? Pg. 167 reads that if and individual does not have “acceptabel” health care coverage they will be fined 2.5 percent of their annual GROSS salary. Now, who determines what is “acceptabel”? Why, the government does-but hey, they are not trying to control or run it are they?

Around pg 460-but forgive me if I get the pg wrong as I am on my blackberry, but it read that tax payers will fund a program where peopel will go out to families of young children or expecting children and teach the how to properly raise their children?

How do you and what basis do you tell a parent how to properly raise their child? What, on Pelosi style or Barney Frank and Ted Kennedy style of parenting? And what in the HELL does that have to do with ANYONES health care?

Gives us a true definition of nanny state doesn’t it?

Again, hundreds of millions of dollars pulled away from true health care for those in need and done so by stealing money from tax payers-outstanding!

I have given you just a FEW examples why Republicans, Independents, Democrats and those who do not recognize a political party do not like the bill as it reads today!

As well, approx. 22 million of those they proport to be uninsured CHOOSE not to have health insurance for whatever reason and another 12 million are illegal aliens. Therefore, roughly 10 million truly need help, whereas 250 million have healthcare and over 80 percent are happy with theirs.

Why are we reinventing the wheel? Because the “I can’t read the bill” power hungry morons in congress want completet control! First the banks, credit industry, auto industry, education and now health care.

Too much control for one entity and history proves this is not a good path to travel down willingly or unwillingly!
